Australia India sign six agreements
A pact to significantly expand counter-terror cooperation was among six agreements India and Australia inked on Sunday as the two countries called for strong action against those financing and providing sanctuary to terror groups.
The agreements were signed after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull. The two leaders decided to significantly expand their ties in several key areas including defence, trade, energy and education.

Though the comprehensive economic cooperation agreement could not fructify during talks the two premiers directed their respective officials to hold early negotiations for the free trade deal.
PM Modi asserted that fight against terrorists, terror organisations and networks should identify, hold accountable and take strong measures against those who encourage, support and finance terror and the two countries had resolved to jointly work towards that.
While PM Modi thanked the Australian parliament for paving way for the country to export uranium to India, Turnbull said he was looking forward to starting the supply soon.
PM Turnbull announced that the Australia had decided to join the International Solar Alliance put together at PM Modi’s initiative. The two leaders also decided to significantly expand their ties in several key areas including defence, trade, energy, education and skill development.
The two leaders also remotely inaugurated a Nano-technology research centre jointly established by TERI Institute and Deakin University of Australia.
Later the two Prime Minister’s rode the Delhi Metro and visited the famous Akshardham temple on the banks of the River Yamuna, where they posed with garlands.
